A strain name is a starting point. Its breeding history tells a deeper story.
Behind every modern cultivar are parent selections, breeding decisions and inherited traits. Understanding provenance, lineage and variation is more useful than relying on a single advertised potency figure.
Breeder Provenance
The original breeder, later seed producer and retailer are not necessarily the same organisation. Look for transparent attribution, identifiable breeding lines and clear distinctions between an original cultivar and a later interpretation.
Genetic Lineage
Parentage helps explain the range of characteristics a cultivar might inherit. Families such as Cookies, Gelato and GG4 have shaped many contemporary hybrids. A family tree is informative, but not a promise that every seed will express the same traits.
Phenotype Variation
Seeds from the same cross may differ in aroma, colour, structure and other characteristics. Breeding and selection influence how consistent a line becomes; environment also affects the traits that are expressed.

Choosing Your Seeds
Feminised photoperiod or autoflower?
Both can offer compelling modern genetics. The important difference is how flowering is regulated, not a universal promise about quality, potency or flavour.
Feminised Seeds
Feminised seeds are produced to yield predominantly female plants. Photoperiod varieties generally initiate flowering in response to sufficiently long nights. Their growth and flowering schedule is therefore linked to the light cycle.
Expect variation between seed-grown individuals, even within a named cultivar. Breeder selection and the particular seed line matter.

Autoflower varieties initiate flowering largely according to developmental age rather than requiring a particular day-length signal. Many modern autoflowers are feminised too, so “feminised” and “autoflower” are not opposites.
Breeding background and selection still determine the characteristics of each cultivar. Descriptions of timing and performance are estimates, not guarantees.
